Status of Ethiopian durum wheat varieties for the stem rust disease resistance under field condition

چکیده

Production of wheat in Ethiopia is under danger from stem rust, which brought on by the disease Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici and has resulted a yield loss 100%. An investigation was conducted hotspot area (Debere Zeit, Ethiopia) to evaluate status Ethiopian durum cultivars for their level rust resistance field. During main seasons 2017, 2020, 2021, 34 varieties with three susceptibility checks were examined. Terminal Rust Severity (TRS), Coefficient Infection (CI) Area Disease Progress Curve (AUDPC) used measure field resistance. Analysis all parameters carried out using R studio. Due low levels AUDPC, ACI, TRS values combined MR infection type, two commercial (Oda Tob-66) may have significant gene(s) seven (Boohie, Kilinto, Ginchi, Robe, Toltu, Lelisso, Bekelcha) showed moderate MRMS responses adult plant mediated minor genes. Stem found affect 73.5% cultivars. Therefore, this study suggests that national breeding effort should focus local rather than ones imported. Key words: Field resistance, wheat, f.sp tritici.

Novel Sources of Stripe Rust Resistance Identified by Genome-Wide Association Mapping in Ethiopian Durum Wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum)

Stripe rust of wheat, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), is a global concern for wheat production, and has been increasingly destructive in Ethiopia, as well as in the United States and in many other countries. As Ethiopia has a long history of stripe rust epidemics, its native wheat germplasm harbors potentially valuable resistance loci. Moreover, the Ethiopian germplasm has ...

Evaluation of Genetic Diversity and Host Resistance to Stem Rust in USDA NSGC Durum Wheat Accessions.

The USDA-ARS National Small Grains Collection (NSGC) maintains germplasm representing global diversity of small grains and their wild relatives. To evaluate the utility of the NSGC durum wheat ( L. ssp. ) accessions, we assessed genetic diversity and linkage disequilibrium (LD) patterns in a durum core subset containing 429 lines with spring growth habit originating from 64 countries worldwide....

Diversity of Resistance Gene Analogues in Rust Resistance and Susceptible Bread Wheat Varieties

Fungal diseases, especially leaf and stripe rusts are wheat yield reducing factors in Iran and the world. In this study, genetic diversity of 20 wheat varieties with different response to leaf and stripe rusts were studied using primers designed based on the conserved regions of plant disease resistance genes. The banding patterns of polymorphic markers were scored as dominant and number of amp...

Short Communication Sources of Stem Rust Resistance in Ethiopian Tetraploid Wheat Accessions

Stem or black rust of wheat caused by the fungus Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici Ericks and Henn (Pgt) is an important disease on wheat worldwide. Pgt is an obligate biotroph, heteroceous in its life cycle and heterothallic in mating type. Seedlings of 41 emmer (Triticum dicoccum), 56 durum (T. durum) wheat accessions were tested for their response to stem rust (Puccinia graminis f. sp. tricti...

Major Gene for Field Stem Rust Resistance Co-Locates with Resistance Gene Sr12 in ‘Thatcher’ Wheat

Stem rust, caused by Puccinia graminis (Pgt), is a damaging disease of wheat that can be controlled by utilizing effective stem rust resistance genes. 'Thatcher' wheat carries complex resistance to stem rust that is enhanced in the presence of the resistance gene Lr34. The purpose of this study was to examine APR in 'Thatcher' and look for genetic interactions with Lr34. A RIL population was te...
